Strathclyde Park Rowing Club in the Community

The club runs the “Row and Grow” community outreach programme, which offers local young people the opportunity to experience rowing under the supervision of qualified coaches in a welcoming, safe and fun environment at Strathclyde Park.

In the first half of 2022, we have run 15 free sessions which has enabled 35 local young people from Braidhurst, Dalziel and Fir Park Secondary schools to get on the water. Their rowing journey starts in single person training boats equipped with stabilising floats. As the skills of our young rowers develop over the weeks, they can progress into 2 and 4 person crew training boats, and some have been rowing up and down Strathclyde Loch in 4 person racing boats – remarkable progress over a period of 8 weeks, which shows just how much amazing talent we have on our doorstep.

We are very excited to be working with Scottish Rowing and North Lanarkshire Active Schools to develop and extend our existing programme in the coming months.

Our community outreach activities are only possible due to funding from The Rowing Foundation, North Lanarkshire Active Schools and Community Fund, the Scotmid Community Fund, the Robertson Trust, the Gordon Fraser Trust, the St Nicholas Care Fund, the Essentia Foundation and the Made by Sport fund.
