Naming of New Boats
Three new boats are introduced to the club
Following the annual Christmas regatta, which had to be held indoors at the loch was frozen, members of the Club carefully made their way over the icy paths to the compound to give our three newest boats their names. First came the two training glide boats with Ailie Ord naming the blue boat "Finding Dory" and Laura Graham naming the green one "Shrek". This was followed up Alistair Neill naming the new coxed four "Nae Pasaran". Alistair explained the significance of name, which literally means "The Shall Not Pass", from the film about the East Kilbride Rolls Royce workers who refused to work on aircraft engines owned by the brutal regime in Chile of General Pinochet in the 1970s. Alistair is a former Rolls Royce employee (joining long after the dispute) but the events are still well remembered and former Rolls Royce staff were present to witness the boat's naming.
