Lochdown Regatta

Strathclyde Park Rowing Club shines at Scottish Rowing’s Lochdown Regatta on home waters

Strathclyde Park Rowing Club produced some superb results during the swelteringly hot weather at the weekend at the first open regatta since lockdown in March 2020. The event, run by Scottish Rowing, had entries from 21 clubs including some from south of the border, and was a welcome return to competition for the many athletes who took part.
The Club had entries in both the senior and junior events and collected an impressive 8 gold medals and 3 silver medals over the two days of racing.
The World Class Start athletes from the Club had great success and took Gold, Silver and 4th place in the Men’s Open Single Sculls with Cam Buchan taking top spot. Also winning were Peter Morgan and Cameron Kemp from SPRC joined by Matthew Fielding and Lukas Neilsen (both of Edinburgh University Boat Club) took Gold convincingly in the Open Quad Sculls. Peter and Cameron also fought a hard race to win the Open Double Sculls just pipping their Quad Scull crew mates to the line. Not to be outdone by the men, Olivia Bell and Catriona Norval led the way down the loch in the Women’s Open Double Sculls event.
Masters members of the club were also successful with first and second in the Women’s Masters Pairs event with Gillian Connal and Ailie Ord taking top position from Ivana Safarik and Paula Hubens. The women’s Masters Quad had a great row with Mary O’Toole, Stephanie Dancer, Liz McGovern and Ailie Ord awarded medals.
The junior members of the club who took part covered themselves in glory – some competing in single sculls for the first time and others building on success from the earlier Junior regatta which was held in June. In the Open J14 Double, Finlay Morton and Dominic McGrory added to their victory in June by winning their event after a time trial and side by side race. Finlay had his debut single race and came a close second, winning a silver medal. Emma McAulay (15) and Maddy West (14) entered the Novice Doubles event where they were racing against seniors and also won Silver medals.
